India Successfully Test-Fires Prithvi-II and Agni-I Ballistic Missiles in Odisha
Prithvi-II and Agni-I Ballistic Missiles Test Fired 1 (for representation purpose only)In a significant boost to India’s strategic firepower, the short-range ballistic missiles Prithvi-II and Agni-I were successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The tests validated all operational and technical parameters and were conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command.
Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), the Ministry of Defence, via PIB, announced, "Successful test-firing of Prithvi-II & Agni-I Ballistic Missiles

According to PTI, the Prithvi-II missile has a range of approximately 350 km and can carry a payload of up to 500 kg. It is capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear warheads. Meanwhile, the Agni-I missile boasts a range of 700–900 km and a payload capacity of 1,000 kg.

In another milestone for India’s air defence capabilities, a successful trial of the Akash Prime surface-to-air missile was conducted in the high-altitude region of Ladakh. The upgraded variant of the Akash weapon system, operated by the Indian Army, successfully neutralised two high-altitude unmanned targets.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the Indian defence industry for this achievement.
