Failed Parachute Jump Results in the Death of 31-Year-Old Navy Officer in Bankura
Chandraka Govind, a 31-year-old member of the Indian Navy's Special Forces, passed away on Wednesday after an unsuccessful parachute jump over West Bengal. Govind, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, was identified as the deceased.
The Eastern Naval Command verified that Govind was associated with INS Karna, the exclusive base for the Navy's Marine Commandos (Marcos) located in Visakhapatnam. His body was discovered outside the entrance of a factory in Barjora, situated in the Bankura district of the state.
Upon discovery, a partially deployed parachute was fastened to his shoulders. Local authorities transported him to the Barjora Super Specialty Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced him deceased on arrival.
According to a statement by the defence public relations officer, “Adm R Hari Kumar CNS and all personnel of the Indian Navy pay tribute to Chandraka Govind, Petty Officer, who lost his life whilst undergoing training exercise at Panagarh on 5 April, 2023 and extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”
