Indian Navy has a New Chief of Personnel After 39 Years

As per an official statement, Vice Admiral Suraj Berry took over as the new Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy on Sunday, succeeding Vice Admiral Satish Kumar Namdeo Ghormade, who retired after serving the Navy for more than 39 years.

VAdm Berry, who was commissioned on 1 January 1987, specialises in Gunnery and Missile Warfare. He has commanded several vessels, including the missile vessel INS Nirbhik, missile corvette INS Karmuk, stealth frigate INS Talwar, and the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, where he served as the commissioning Commanding Officer. Additionally, he has held various Staff and Operational appointments, including those as the Operations Officer of the Mobile Missile Coastal Battery, Fleet Gunnery Officer of the Western Fleet, Defence Adviser to the Indian High Commissioner of Sri Lanka and Maldives, Director at the Directorate of Staff Requirements, Naval Assistant to the Chief of Naval Staff, and Principal Director of Strategy, Concepts, and Transformation at the Naval Headquarters. Vice Admiral Berry has been recognised for his meritorious service during the Tsunami Relief operations in Sri Lanka/Maldives with the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2006 and for devotion to duty with the Nau Sena Medal in 2015.
