According to the government's announcement on Tuesday, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will confer the esteemed President's Colour upon INS Dronacharya, the Gunnery School of the Indian Navy, tomorrow on March 16th.

The President's Colour, also known as the Nishan, is regarded as the most prestigious recognition bestowed by the Supreme Commander and President of India upon a unit for its outstanding contribution to the nation.

The responsibility of imparting comprehensive training to Navy and Coast Guard officers and sailors, as well as friendly foreign maritime forces, on all aspects of gunnery and missile warfare lies with INS Dronacharya.

At INS Dronacharya, the primary emphasis is on training officers and sailors to deliver ordnance accurately on the intended target. It plays a crucial role in shaping sea warriors by providing them with the necessary professional expertise and unshakable determination to serve on our formidable warships.

Furthermore, INS Dronacharya serves as the primary training centre for Sagar Prahari Bal and the Navy's training centre for constabulary operations for various nations in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

In addition to its other responsibilities, INS Dronacharya is also the designated training authority for drill and ceremonial procedures in both the Navy and the Coast Guard.

In 2004, it was officially designated as the Center of Excellence in Gunnery and Missile Warfare.

As a testament to the Gunnery School's outstanding service to the nation, INS Dronacharya will be bestowed with the President's Colour on March 16, 2023, which will be presented during a ceremonial parade at 4:20 pm, to be reviewed by the President of India.

The ceremony will be attended by various dignitaries, including the Governor and Chief Minister of Kerala, the Chief of the Naval Staff, the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Southern Naval Command, and several other senior service and civilian officials.
