Defence Ministry Signs Contracts Worth Rs. 800 Crores for BOM Wagons, Army Equipment
The Defence Ministry recently finalized contracts totaling Rs. 802 crore, which include the procurement of 697 'bogie open military (BOM) railway wagons and 56 mechanical minefield marking equipment (MMME) for the Army.
A deal worth Rs. 473 crore was signed with Jupiter Wagons Ltd for the BOM wagons. These wagons are specifically utilized for transporting infantry combat vehicles, artillery guns, and engineering equipment from non-combat zones to operational areas. A military official highlighted that this rolling stock is crucial for ensuring swift and simultaneous deployment of Army units and equipment to operational zones during potential conflict situations.
Additionally, a contract valued at Rs. 329 crore was inked with BEML for the MMME Mark-II. These high mobility vehicles are equipped with advanced systems aimed at reducing the time required for marking minefields during military operations.
