On Thursday, the Ministry of Defence inked a deal with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to acquire 13 Lynx-U2 Fire Control Systems for the Indian Navy, totaling more than ₹ 1,700 crore.

These Naval Gun Fire Control Systems have been indigenously designed and developed and are equipped to accurately track and engage targets amidst sea clutter as well as air/surface targets. The 4th generation systems, which are completely home-grown, will be integrated into New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels, which will be constructed domestically by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers and Goa Shipyard Limited. This decision is expected to generate employment for 2 lakh man-days over a four-year period and promote active participation from various Indian industries, including MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), thereby making a significant contribution to the government's push for aatmanirbharta in defence. The Defence Ministry confirmed these developments.
