EAM Jaishankar Scheduled to Speak at 7th Indian Ocean Conference
The Indian Ocean Conference, an essential consultative platform for Indian Ocean Region countries, is organized annually by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the India Foundation.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to address the 7th Indian Ocean Conference in Perth, Australia, commencing today under the theme "Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean." Jaishankar will deliver remarks during the conference's inaugural session, alongside Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
The Indian Ocean Conference, an essential consultative platform for Indian Ocean Region countries, is organized annually by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the India Foundation. This year's conference is co-hosted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of Australia, along with the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore, and the Perth-US Asia Centre in Australia.
This significant event, a joint effort of the Ministry of External Affairs and its partners, serves as a platform for addressing critical regional issues. The 7th Indian Ocean Conference will bring together distinguished leaders and delegates to deliberate on various regional challenges.
Over 22 countries will be represented by ministerial-level delegations, along with senior officials from 16 countries and 6 multilateral organizations. Moreover, more than 400 social and corporate leaders, policy practitioners, scholars, professionals, and media personnel from approximately 40 countries will actively participate in the conference.
Since its establishment in 2016 in Singapore, the Indian Ocean Conference has played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among nations and key maritime stakeholders in the region. Through its platform, the conference aims to facilitate discussions on enhancing regional cooperation for Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
