Palestinian Authority
An autonomous government for parts of Gaza and the West Bank, founded in 1994, and intended to be the basis of a future Palestinian state. Its first leader was Yasser Arafat, leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. It was expelled from Gaza by Hamas in 2007 and widely seen by Palestinians as corrupt and incompetent.
