509 Signal Unit (509 SU)
The Indian Air Force's No. 509 Signal Unit (SU), established on 1 March 1965, currently functions as an Air Defence Direction Centre in Meghalaya. The unit plays a crucial role in air defence operations and contributes to the nation's security. Throughout its operational history, the 509 Signal Unit has been involved in various missions and exercises aimed at safeguarding the Indian airspace. It was the epicentre of all air defence activities over then East Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
The President's Colours were presented to the 509 Signal Unit during an impressive parade at the Air Force Station Hindan in Ghaziabad on 8 March 2024.
