45 Squadron (Flying Daggers)

No. 45 Squadron of the Indian Air Force, known as the "Flying Daggers," is a Fighter Squadron based in Bangalore, Karnataka. Established on February 15, 1960, the squadron initially operated British-built De Havilland Vampire aircraft. Over the years, it has evolved and currently operates the indigenous HAL Tejas aircraft. The squadron's motto is "Ajeet Nabha."

Notably, President Droupadi Murmu honoured the No. 45 Squadron with the prestigious President's Standard on 8 March 2024. This recognition is the highest honour bestowed upon a military unit and highlights the squadron's exceptional service to the nation. The squadron's history includes participation in significant military operations such as Operation Vijay during the Goa liberation from the Portuguese in 1960 and offensive missions in 1965 against Pakistan, where it destroyed enemy tanks.

Furthermore, the No. 45 Squadron played a crucial role in Operation Meghdoot with MiG-23BN aircraft, conducting photo reconnaissance of Pakistani troops and delivering armaments at high altitudes. The squadron's contributions have been recognized with Battle Honors for its exemplary performance during various conflicts.

The recent induction of Light Combat Aircraft 'Tejas' into the No. 45 Squadron signifies its modernization and adaptation to advanced technologies in line with India's defence capabilities.
