US Naval War College

Located at Newport, Rhode Island, it was founded by Rear Admiral Stephen B. Luce, USN, in 1884 to serve as “a place of original research on all questions relating to war and to statesmanship connected with war, or the prevention of war.”

From the time of its founder and first president, the Naval War College has functioned to excel as the Navy's "Home of Thought". The vision and efforts of its storied presidents have ensured the college's place at the forefront of institutions dedicated to educating leaders.
