Radars

Large Phased Array Radar (LPAR)

Set up by the Chinese PLA in the Yunnan province adjoining the China-Myanmar border, it is capable of detecting and tracking India's ballistic missile launches in real time in the Bay of Bengal. The radar's range exceeds 5000 km, which allows extensive surveillance over the Indian Ocean and deep penetration into Indian territory. The LPAR can detect and track the country's missile test launches conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island of the Odisha Coast, which serves as a launch site for the Agni V intercontinental ballistic missiles, and the submarine-launched K-4 for missiles. China's strategic radar placement allows it to monitor critical, maritime and military activities in the Bay of Bengal and also the vital Malacca Strait.
