The Chechen Conflict

Originating in the early 1990s, this conflict between Russian forces and Chechen separatist groups involved two wars (1994-1996 and 1999-2000) and ongoing insurgency and counterinsurgency operations. While large-scale operations have ceased, sporadic violence and terrorism linked to the broader North Caucasus insurgency continued into the 21st century.
