Through the autumn of 1944, Allied troops made their way across Nazi-occupied Europe, liberating towns and villages as they went. In the wake of the Normandy campaign, Nazi resistance seemed to crumble and it appeared that the war might finally be coming to its end.

Driving Back the Nazis explores the process of liberation, from the arrival of Allied forces in Paris through the emancipation of Belgium to the closing down of Nazi prison camps. But there was a darker side to liberation too collaborators were harshly punished and the arriving armies brought new troubles with them. Meanwhile, the Axis powers were regrouping and preparing for an assault that could change the course of the war.
