Although Dr Radha Kumar in her book Paradise at War: A Political History of Kashmir approaches the subject of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, naturally from an Indian perspective, I would like to compliment her that she has, like other well-meaning Pakistanis and Indians, reached the conclusion that the present situation is unsustainable... As someone who was intricately involved with the most productive peace process between the two countries since independence, I agree with Dr Radha Kumar's views that the Aziz-Lambah framework ('the backchannel') was the only one to work out a settlement in detail. I have given all the details in my book and feel that when the conditions are ripe, Indians, Pakistanis, and Kashmiris will not need to reinvent the wheel and could proceed from where we left off.
